Helen Williams Sroka East Lansing, Mich., formerly of Burlington, died July 1, 2012, in East Lansing. She was born to the late James and Mattie Williams in Arkansas. She attended high school in Stuttgart, Ark., and graduated from Rufus King High of Milwaukee, where they had moved in 1940. She later graduated from Milwaukee-Downer College receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.
She married William Charles Sroka, M.D. in 1946. They moved to Burlington in 1948 when Dr. Sroka went into private practice with Dr. Robert Mullen. After service in Korea, Dr. Sroka returned to Burlington where he practiced until ill health forced him to resign.
Helen was a member of the St. Mary’s Church since 1948. She was active in the Burlington Hospital Auxiliary and served on the Board in several positions. She enjoyed music especially the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Milwaukee Symphony.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Sroka, Los Alamitos, Calif., Mary Allen, Mason, Mich., Susan Renner, Sammamish, Wash.; grandsons, Brian and Adam Kadlac, Dean Allen and Eric Renner DVM.; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Devin Allen.
Visitation is Monday, July 9, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 108 McHenry St., Burlington, with the Rev. James Volkert as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, Lansing, Mich., and Schramka-Borgwardt Funeral Home, West Allis, are serving the family.
