James F. Rothering, 87, Burlington, died Jan. 4, 2012, at his residence at Pine Brook Pointe. He was born April 20, 1924, to the late Francis and Effie (Wagner) Rothering in Burlington. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington graduating from St. Mary’s High School. He was employed by the Burlington Mills, in the shipping department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a volunteer at St. Mary’s hot lunch program for many years. He was an avid reader, loved going to the movies and never missed a chance to indulge in a dessert to satisfy his sweet tooth. Jim was known for always being there to help the elderly women in the neighborhood with many different odd jobs.
Survivors include his sister Marjorie (Herbert) Uhen; sister-in-law, Jeanie Rothering; former sister-in-law, Joan Rothering; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was further preceded in death by his twin brother, Jack, and younger brother David.
Funeral services were Jan. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, assisted the family.
The family has suggested memorials for Jim be made to St. Mary’s Grade School, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Catholic Central High School.
