JOHN E. ROWNTREE


John E. Rowntree, 94, of Dover Township died Nov. 18, 2012, at the same home in which he was born. He was born Oct. 25, 1918, to the late Edward L. and Mary (Willey) Rowntree. He spent his entire life on the family farm.

He was a 1936 graduate of Burlington High School, and attended UW-Madison College of Agriculture.

On March 16, 1946, at North Lima Presbyterian Church, he married Ann Kyle. He was a farmer and a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Burlington Rotary Club, the Farm Bureau, the Bank of Burlington Board of Directors and the Rochester Cemetery Board.

Survivors include his wife of 66-½ years; children, David (Arlene) Rowntree, Union Grove, Mary (Andy) Currie, Waunakee, Ruth (Greg) Reinhart, College Station, Texas, Tom (Kay) Rowntree, Waterford, Paul (Toni) Rowntree, Kansasville; grandchildren, Jean (Patrick) Uhlenhake, Andrew (Kristin) Rowntree, Karen Rowntree, Sue Rowntree, Jonathan (Julia) Currie, Robert Currie, Katie Reinhart, Tim Reinhart, Scott Rowntree, Bryan Rowntree, Kyle Rowntree, Matthew Rowntree, Christina Rowntree; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Margaret Rowntree and Benjamin Currie; a sister, Ruth Forhan, Kirkland, Wash.; sister-in-law, Maryanna Allabough; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert and Robert Rowntree.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 23, from 4 p.m., until time of services at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Robert Wang will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Rochester Cemetery.

Memorials to Plymouth Congregational Church, the Burlington Rotary Club or to Love Inc. are suggested.

The family would like to express a special thank you to John’s caregiver, Andi Demeti and to Dr. Zaremba and her wonderful staff at the Aurora Burlington Clinic.
