Joyce A. Schilz, 86, Burlington, died Dec. 25, 2012, at Aurora Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1926, to the late Joe and Cyrilla (DeGrave) Kresken in Waterford. She spent her early life in Waterford and graduated from Waterford High School in 1944.
On Sept. 15, 1951, she married the late Gordon Schilz at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Following marriage, they resided in Burlington.
She was employed by Murphy’s Products as an executive secretary and later worked at the First Banking Center. She was a very active member of St. Charles Church, being involved as a hostess for the spaghetti and turkey dinners and the church Fall Festival. She generously volunteered her time for various programs including, being a Girl Scout leader, Meals on Wheels, Healthy Kids Club, the Hospital Auxiliary and visiting at Mt. Carmel for many years. In her leisure time she enjoyed golfing, crueling, cross-stitching, traveling, crossword puzzles, reading and listening to books on tape. She loved going to the theater, visiting Branson, Mo., and her Sunday afternoon Cruises with Gordie.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Bud (Janet) Gores; Aunt Marjorie Dantzler; special friends the Jim Steffens family and the Bob Finley family along with many other friends and relatives.
She was further preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jo Gores.
Visitation is Saturday, Dec. 29, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Steve Amann will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
The family and friends would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aurora Memorial Hospital, Aurora VNA Hospice and Dr. Paul Webber for the care they gave Joyce.
The family has suggested memorials be made to St, Charles Catholic Church, the Burlington Fire Department or the Burlington Rescue squad.
