Louise T. Berndt, 93, Burlington, died June 8, 2012, at Pine Brook Pointe. She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Chicago, to the late Joseph F. and Elizabeth (Hameister) Schaefer. She spent her early life in Lyons Township and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
On Aug. 7, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, she married Lyle W. Berndt. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2002.
She worked at National Tea as a cashier for 12 years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. She was a poll worker for the City of Burlington for 20 years and enjoyed playing bingo and shuffleboard, as well as all the many activities Pine Brooke Pointe offers. She was also an avid card player and loved playing with her card club. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, word searches and watching birds. She bestowed unto her family and friends a great and generous love. She spent her life giving to those around her and living the example of what true love means. She lived a life of great faith in the Lord by walking in love, being slow to anger, quick to forgive and fast to love. To all those who knew and loved Louise, let her love live on through you with kindness, encouragement and peace.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Linda) Berndt, LeRoy (Karen) Berndt, Linda (Chas) Vos, Lois (Elmer) Weis; grandchildren, Brian (Jamie) Vos, Joseph (Stephanie) Vos, Kristin Vos, Amy Vos, Justin (Katie) Weis, Dana (David) Duncan, Danielle Weis, Matthew (Lissa) Berndt, Christopher Berndt, Sarah Berndt, William (Dusty) Berndt, Thomas Berndt and Jennifer (Daniel) Robinson; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene Hansen of Elkhorn, Audrey Frey of Lyons, and Shirley Berndt of Burlington; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
She was further preceded in death by sisters, Frances Jochem, Florence and Coletta Reesman, Dorothy Schaefer, Rosemary Klaehn; and brothers, Thomas and Herbert Schaefer.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 12, from 3-6:15 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Funeral services are Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Burial is June 13 at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
