Margret H. Seymour

Margret H. Seymour, maiden name Margret Ann Hanson, born in Manitowoc, died April 25, 2012.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends of old and new.

She was born in 1927, and graduated from UW-Madison in 1949. She was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta. While attending college, she reluctantly paid a dollar to attend a fraternity party of which she met her future husband, the late John W. Seymour. The two were married a short seven years later in 1954 in Manitowoc. They raised five children, four boys and a baby girl in Hartford, and in Burlington where they resided for more than 30 years.

After college, she worked for the phone company, state division as an instructor and business office supervisor until 1954. While in Burlington, she worked for the Human Resource Center, which provided social services, support and education for young teens. She later went on to be the social worker at Burlington Memorial Hospital from 1978-1985 before retiring. She also helped her husband with bookwork for their engineering company.

She enjoyed many activities such as horseback riding, gardening and camping in her younger years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bridge and dinner parties, and singing by the piano with her close friends. But above all she loved being a mom and had the sense of humor a mother of five could have. This was evident from the memorabilia she kept of all her children, from first drawings to newspaper clippings of accomplishments. And her wonderful ability to love and support, will never be forgotten.

Survivors include her sons, John “Skip” Seymour, (Leslie Donavan), Thomas Seymour (Bonnie Hagness), Chris Seymour (Hollie Hollister), Mark Seymour (Robyn Seymour); and daughter, Dena Seymour; granddaughters, Allison Seymour and Kerrin Seymour; nieces, Cathy Murphy, Susan Canale, Laura Gruenewald, Carol Taillon Green; and nephew, Greg Taillon.

A celebration of her life is Saturday, May 19, from 1-3 p.m., at Saddlebrook Farm’s Lake House, 2601 Saddlebrook Drive, Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, to be planned. McMurrough Chapel, Illinois, is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to kindly donate to St. Francis Animal Shelter, 12300 116th St., Kenosha, WI 53140.
