Neal L. Solberg, 56, Burlington, died Feb. 8, 2012, at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital in Brookfield. He was born July 12, 1955, in Burlington, to Lawrence and Miola (Wortman) Solberg. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington and a graduate of Burlington High School. He went on to attend UW–Stevens Point, then studied abroad in Malaysia, before backpacking around Europe.
He worked as a second pressman for Quad Graphics for 23 years and was a lifetime member of Cross Lutheran Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. He was a gourmet cook and appreciated good food.
Survivors include his mother, Burlington; the love of his life, Julie Gabaldo, Burlington; his special canine companion, Russel; his sisters, Pamela (Frederick) Sieker, Carmel, N.Y., Charlene Solberg, Burlington, Denise (Daniel) Kretschmer, Elizabeth, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Brian, Danielle and Mark Sieker, Waylon and Allison Kretschmer, Gwen Bensen and Klaus Kretschmer; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services are Monday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., at Cross Lutheran Church, Burlington, with the Rev. Corrine Denis officiating. Visitation is Sunday, Feb. 12, from 3-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, and again on Monday, at Cross Lutheran Church from 10-10:45 a.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorials to either the American Cancer Society or to your local animal rescue shelter are suggested.
