RALPH F. EPPING


Ralph F. Epping, 90, Burlington, died Nov. 4, 2012, at Waterford Senior Living.

He was born on July 9, 1922, in Burlington, to the late Frank H. and Helen L. (Ebbers) Epping. He was a lifetime resident of the Burlington area and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, in 1940.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from March 1943 until November 1945. He served as a fighter pilot on an aircraft carrier over the South Pacific.

On Oct. 8, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dover, he married Nancy J. Gorman. Together they made their home in Kansasville and then Burlington.

He worked as a credit manager for both Burlington Memorial Hospital and the Burlington Clinic and later as the city clerk for Burlington. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kansasville and Burlington, the VFW, the Burlington Kiwanis Club and an active 20-year member of the Tuesday Night Club. He enjoyed golfing and watching and attending sporting events as well as traveling with his wife. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; children, Carol (Mark) Huckstorf, Burlington, Margaret (David Kaiser) Epping, Burlington, Mary Ellen (Hugh) Beach, Milwaukee, and Andrew (Jackie) Epping, Duluth, Ga., 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond Epping, Burlington.

He was further preceded in death by a brother, Vic Epping, sister, Mary Busch and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Visitation is Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Nov. 10, at noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary’s Schools or to the Burlington Rescue Squad are suggested.

Ralph’s family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Mt. Carmel Medical & Rehabilitation Center and to the Waterford Memory Care for all their care and compassion. Also thank you to all the family and friends who have showed their concern and support.
