REV. CLETUS V. UHEN

Rev. Cletus V. Uhen, 94, formerly Burlington, died Nov. 24, 2012, at Oak Ridge Care Center, Union Grove. He was born Dec. 20, 1917, to the late Fred and Dora (Recktenwald) in Burlington. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He continued his education at the St. Francis Seminary where he received his BA in philosophy and his MA in theology.

On Dec. 8, 1942, he was ordained a priest at the St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. After his ordination his assignments were as follows: 1942-1943 assistant pro tem. St. Mary’s, Mayville; 1943-1945 assistant St. Rose, Racine; 1945-1959 Teacher & Athletic Director, St. Catherine’s High School; 1959-1961 administrator, SS. Peter & Paul Mission Duplainville and Teacher Catholic Memorial High, Waukesha, and Chaplain, Carmelite Monastery, Pewaukee; 1961-1962 Pastor, St. Michael, Dotyville; 1962-1964 Pastor,  St. Francis Xavier, Brighton; 1964-1967 Pastor, Holy Name, Wilmot; 1967-1987 Pastor,  St. Thomas Aquinas, Waterford. After his retirement in 1987 he continued to be involved and active in many different committees and parishes including: part-time associate at St Rose, Racine, and St. Casimir, Kenosha, assisted at St. Stanislaus and Holy Trinity, volunteer tutor at Sacred Heart School, member of the Racine Dairy Statesman Church Singers, Burlington Catholic Central High School Round Table, Waterford KC Council, Racine KC Fourth Degree, unofficial chaplain of Fountain Hills Apts. and a member of  Kenosha Manner Gesang Verein.

Survivors include his brothers, Donald (Dolores) Uhen, Burlington, Richard (Jody) Uhen, Fort Wayne, Ind., sister-in-law, Donna Uhen, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by siblings, Loraine (Edward) Gannon, Sister Rosita Uhen O.P., Roman (Lorraine) Uhen and Victor (Jeannette) Uhen.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 30, from 4-8 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec 1, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev James Volkert officiating. Burial will follow service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to Catholic Central High School, St. Catherine High School in Racine or St. Monica’s Assisted Living Center, Racine.
