Ruth Patricia (Licher) Oberbruner, 88, Burlington, died Oct. 29, 2012, at Aurora Burlington Hospital of natural causes. She was surrounded by her loving family sharing stories of a life well lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ken “Red” Oberbruner; children, Gary William and Mary Louise; brothers, Wayne and Frank; granddaughter, Carrane Ambrose.
She was a resident of Burlington since 1970 where three of her children—Larry, Jamey and Dick—graduated from Burlington High School. Ruth and Red lived in Milton, prior to this where three children—Skip, Dan and Trish—graduated from Milton High School.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Milton and St. Charles Borromeo Church in Burlington, where she was also choir director during Father Andre’s tenure. She was lauded for her soprano voice and musical knowledge, which she shared with school children of all ages.
Born to Ruby (Peglow) and Frank Licher in Beloit on July 16, 1924, and raised in Attleboro, Mass., she had four brothers, Wayne, Frank, Lloyd and Bobby. The family moved back to Beloit where she graduated from Beloit College and sang in the choir with James Arness of ‘Gunsmoke’ fame. After college, Ruth became a high school English teacher and married Red on Oct. 25, 1947.
Survivors include her brothers, Lloyd Licher, San Francisco area and Bobby Licher, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; sons, Kenneth, Jr. ‘Skip,’ Madison, Robert Daniel and wife Lisa (Marquee), Ontario, Larry and wife Maria (Perez), Waukesha, Jamey and wife Cindy (Henschel), Waukesha, Richard, Naperville, Ill.; daughter, Patricia ‘Trish’ and husband Ted Miller, Kewaskum; grandchildren, Danny, Ann, Jacob, Austin, Cassidy, Madison, Olivia and Molly.
Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Funeral services are Thursday, Nov. 8, at noon, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Burlington. Internment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Burlington.
