Viva C. “Penny” Dieringer, 75, Palm Desert, Calif., died on July 23, 2012, at Odyssey House in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
She was born Dec. 26, 1936, in Skykomish, Wash., to the late Joseph and Marvel (Pickett) Joyce. She spent her early life in Washington. She attended Seattle University, where she met her husband, the late Andrew M. Dieringer.
They married on April 26, 1958, in Seattle. Following marriage they settled in Waterford, until their retirement in Palm Desert.
She received her teaching degree from UW-Whitewater and taught for over 25 years at Fox River Middle School. She was a dedicated teacher, who believed hard work and stern discipline helped children to be their best.
She was an avid Wis. Badger and Green Bay Packer football fan. And she always enjoyed a nice cocktail or glass of white wine.
She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Wind Lake, until 1990, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church from 1990-2004, where she enjoyed “counting money,” on Mondays.
Survivors include her daughters, Therese (Allen Goda) Dieringer, Redlands, Calif., Suzanne (Tracy) Breneman, Orfordville, Karen (Doug) Norrick, Wind Lake; grandchildren, Rita and Mackenzie Breneman, Orfordville, Carter, Reese and Elena Norrick, Wind Lake; two sisters; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass is Aug. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Palm Desert, Calif. The Rev. Eugene Speno will officiate. Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries, Cathedral City, Calif., is handling arrangements.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
so sorry to hear about Penny. I had her delightful daugherKaren in school.
My sympathies to Karen and the entire family. Mrs. Dieringer was my fifth grade teacher, and she was loved by many and respected by even the rowdiest of kids – nobody misbehaved in her classroom! She was a bright teacher and a great person. Peace be upon her soul….
I was a teacher in the Waterford Graded School system when Penny was there. Karen was in my third grade class.
My deepest sympathy to Penny’s family.
So sorry for your loss, I too had Mrs Dieringer in 5th grade at Fox River and got better grades because of her! Despite the small town – her teaching style made a big impact in all her years of teaching.
