E. Louise Meyer, 91, formerly of Raymond Township, died Jan. 26, 2013, at Azura Memory Care in Kenosha.
She was born June 16, 1921, to the late Irwin and Mina (Phelps) Phelps in Gregory, S.D. In 1928 she moved to the Racine County area. She graduated from the Union Grove High School in 1939 and then attended the Business School in Racine.
On June 20, 1943, she married Paul Esmond. They owned and operated the Esmond Motel in Union Grove for many years. After selling the motel, she worked as a secretary at various offices, retiring as the office manager at Shepherds Ministries. He preceded her in death in 1973.
On June 11, 1977, she married Orville Meyer in Union Grove and they resided in Raymond Township until his death in 2000. She was a member of the Union Grove Baptist Church where she was involved in the Ladies Missionary Group and taught Sunday school. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and dedicated her life to helping family and friends – often as a loving caregiver.
Survivors include her siblings, Irene Zirbel, Waterford, Jennie Gieschen, Bend, Ore., Burt (Elaine) Phelps, Burlington, Sylvia (Richard) Stoudt, Holland, Mich.; sister-in-law, Ruth Phelps, Eagle Point, Ore.; many special nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and nephews. She was further preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford (Grace Erickson) and (Henrietta Clausen) Phelps, Glen Phelps, Leon Phelps; sister, Dorothy (Richard) DeBaets; brothers-in-law, Rev. Theodore Gieschen and Lawrence ‘Jim’ Zirbel.
Visitation is Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with funeral services at noon at Union Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. George Schlagel will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Grove Memorial Cemetery. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Union Grove, is serving the family.
The family has suggested memorials be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church or to the Hospice Alliance.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring ‘Family’ staff at Azura Memory Care for the concerned and special attention they gave Louise the past six years and also to the Hospice Alliance Staff for their assistance.
