ESTHER A. KAUFFMAN

Esther A. Kauffman, 84, passed away on Feb. 4, 2013. She was born on July 1, 1928, in Eau Claire.
After many travels, she returned to Wisconsin in 1977, and lived with her family in Williams Bay before moving to Elkhorn in 2002.
Esther was a teacher all her life. Most recently, she taught English, speech and literature for many years at Burlington Catholic Central High School in Burlington. She worked tirelessly for her family and her students, many of whom credited her for being the reason they went on to higher education. Her spirit and love for her work were unquestionable – she continued to teach until reluctantly retiring at 80 years young.
Her fondest memories were time spent with her husband and children, and traveling Europe with her mother, Anna. Esther is survived by her two loving children, Kristine and Kurt (Laura).
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Jack.
Her children will be establishing an annual essay scholarship competition in her honor for students at Burlington Catholic Central to help deserving students attend college. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Esther Kauffman Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contact Kurt at [email protected] for information.
Esther’s family will be hosting a celebration of her life for family and friends throughout the day at their home at 25 Spencer St., Elkhorn, on Sunday, Feb. 10, and Sunday, Feb. 17. All are welcome to stop by either day to pay their respects and share memories.
She will be interred alongside her husband at the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m.
