ETHEL L. WILKS

 

Ethel L. Wilks, 91, Town of Yorkville, died peacefully March 7, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital.

She was born Feb. 10, 1922 to the late Walter and Meta (Bruss) Baum in Milwaukee. Her early life was spent in the Milwaukee area where she graduated from Bay View High School.

On April 12, 1947, she married Ervin A. Wilks in Milwaukee. Following marriage they resided on the family farm, in the Town of Yorkville. Ethel treasured being the wife of a farmer and helped Ervin with the daily chores. He preceded her in death.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and a past 4-H leader. She was a very gifted person, her list of talents included crocheting, crafting, sewing, canning, cooking, baking, gardening and making floral arrangements from her very own garden. She also enjoyed reading and listening to music. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Ellen (Robert) Gehrand, Carol (Gary) Wennerstrand, Richard Wilks, Nancy (Russell) Glodowski; grandchildren, Jim, Tom (Jessica), Mike (Amy), Christy, Andy Gehrand, Brenda (Brian) Gerou, Carrie (Matt) Snorek, Jessica (Karl) Winderl, Tammi (Jake) Larson, Angie (Craig Storey) Glodowski, Lori (John) Heister; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ben, Harley, Bill, Daisy Gehrand, Carson and Nathan Gerou, Landon Winderl, Emily and Nick Weise and a baby Snorek on the way. She is further survived by cousins and many nieces and nephews.

She was further preceded in death by her sister, Esther (Ray) Carr.

Visitation is Sunday, March 10, from 1:30 p.m., until time of services at 3 p.m., at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2908 S. Colony Ave., Union Grove. The Rev. David Peters will  officiate. Private burial will be in Arlington Park Cemetery. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Union Grove, is serving the family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Wheaton Franciscan and Hospice nursing staff and a special thank you to Dr. Jim Simonds and Ethel’s caretaker Cheri Demant for all their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
