Gerald L. ‘Jerry’ Levans, 76, died April 18, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Siam, Ohio, to the late Chester J. and Lucile M. (Wilson) Levans. He spent his early life and received his education in Attica, Ohio.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from July 1956 to June 1960. He was honorably discharged in February 1962.
On July 25, 1959, in Oakland, Calif., he married Ivy J. Brown. Following marriage, they made their home in Burlington. He worked for the Chrysler Corp., Kenosha, for more than 20 years. After retiring from Chrysler, he began his second career with Napa Auto Parts in Burlington. He retired from Napa in October 2012, and with much anticipation, moved to Arlington, Tenn.
He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and fellow veterans. He was a member of the Burlington VFW Post 2823, the American Legion Post 79, and the Navy Club USA Ship 240. He was involved with fundraising events to help other veterans and other activities with the VFW and the American Legion. He will be remembered for his friendly smile, sense of humor, and the willingness to lend a hand.
Survivors include his wife; children, Lonnie (Debby) Levans, Burlington, Ronald (Meridith) Levans, Arlington, Tenn., Carol (Joseph) Connelly, Pleasant Prairie, and Kellie Levans, Burlington; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers, Robert and Norbert Levans.
He was further preceded in death by his brothers Edward, George and Jack.
Visitation is Saturday, April 27, from 2 p.m., until time of memorial service with full military honors at 3 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Tom Armitage will officiate.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove, Wisconsin.
