Helen A. Hoerneman, 97, Burlington, died at Geneva Lake Manor on March 19, 2013. She was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late William and Helen (Hrabia) Jaehne. She spent her early life in Pittsburgh and graduated from Assumption High School in Bellevue, Pa.
On June 20, 1938, at Assumption Catholic Church, Bellevue, she married Leonard J. Hoerneman. Following marriage they resided in Chicago before making their home in Burlington in 1944. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1981.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Burlington Women’s Club. She was a poll worker in Burlington and in her earlier years a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was an avid canasta player and loved doing crossword puzzles, rosemaling, gardening, and indoor plants, especially orchids and violets.
Survivors include her sons, Leonard R. (Mary K.) Hoerneman, Lancaster, Va., Duane G. Hoerneman, Burlington, David W. (Colleen) Hoerneman, Chili; grandchildren, Paula (Roy) Divine, Ethan (Teresa Pezzi) Hoerneman, Cory (Joe) Busch, Brian (Tanya) Hoerneman, Maggie (Dennis) Dziubek, Joel (Kelly) Hoerneman, Steven Hoerneman; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alli, Ninah, Gwendolyn, Shelby, Stephen, Henry, Owen, Liam, Max and Lauren; and a sister, Mary Rita Walsh.
She was further preceded in death by her siblings, Florence (Edward) Gerber, Sister Mary Dorothy Jaehne, Lillian (George) Wagner and Mildred (William) Rothermel; and by a brother-in-law, Regis Walsh.
Visitation is Thursday, March 21, from 5-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Funeral Services are Friday, March 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Inurnment will take place in St. Charles Cemetery Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 229 W. State St., Burlington, have been suggested .
