Helen C. Brower, 91, Burlington, died Jan. 28, 2013, at Arbor View Communities. She was born on Oct. 13, 1921, in Staten Island, N.Y., to the late John H. and Henrietta (Hendrickson) Liesenberg. She spent her early life in Staten Island, N.Y., and Buffalo, N.Y., and graduated from New Dorp High School and Wood Secretarial School in Manhattan.
She married Jackson A. Brower July 21, 1951. Following marriage they resided in Staten Island, Cedar Knolls, N.J., Mount Prospect, Ill., Contoocook, N.H., and Graham, N.C., before making their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2005. She had resided at Spring Brook Village from 2006 until 2009.
She had worked as an executive secretary as well as being a homemaker and had been a member of Moravian Church in New York. She was an active volunteer at Love Inc., and had generously given to Smiletrain, Paralyzed Veterans Society and the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
Her hobbies included reading, sewing and shopping. Most of all she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda C. (Warren) Simmons; grandchildren, Jessica (Jesse Wilson) Brower, Jason Brower, Sarah (Dan) Clement, Matthew Backhaus, Alexandra Brower, Karolyn Brower; sister, Edna Devansky, Pinehurst, N.C.
She was further preceded in death by her sons, Bruce E. Brower and Richard Brower; and brother, Robert Liesenberg.
Visitation is Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 S. Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Private burial will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
Memorials to Smiletrain or Paralyzed Veterans or to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission are suggested.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Carol Potts of the Visiting Physicians Association for years of wonderful care; to the very caring staff at Arbor View in Burlington; and to the staff at St. Luke’s in Milwaukee for the wonderful care following her fall in December.
