James J. ‘Jim’ Duffy, 93, Burlington, died Feb. 10, 2013, at Pine Brook Pointe. He was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Duluth, Minn., to the late Harry T. and Vada (Watts) Duffy. He spent his early life and received his education in Duluth. He had dropped out of college to join the Army Air Corps in early 1941. He flew 52 missions piloting an A-20 Bomber in the African Theatre. He was awarded numerous Air Medals, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his gallantry in action against the enemy.
On Aug. 16, 1945, in Lafayette, Ind., he married Catherine ‘Katie’ Ruppert. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington.
He had worked for Lavelle Industries as a cost accountant. He was a member of the Lions Club, the USAF Reserve, and had served several years as a Burlington Alderman. He was a member and an usher for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. His hobbies included golf, and watching the Green Bay Packers, Badger football and hockey. he spent quality time with his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed his alone time with the love of his life, Katie.
Survivors include his wife; children, Peggy Combs, Denver, Colo., Jack Duffy, Wausau, Tim Duffy, Madison, Mary Krueger, Lake Tomahawk, Patty Rydzik, Waterford, Terry Alexander, Denver; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was further preceded in death by his brother, Harry Duffy.
Visitation is Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10-11:15 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Chapel at St. Mary’s Church, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
