Melvin M. Burmeister, 87, Burlington, died May 26, 2013, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.
He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Wisconsin to the late Alvin and Elsie (Steffen) Burmeister. Melvin spent his early life in Twin Lakes and had been a longtime resident of the Burlington area. He owned and operated Melvin Burmeister Excavating Inc. up until last week.
He loved fishing, gardening, and watching the Brewers and Packers. He truly loved his family and was a man of integrity. He was very professional and had a great work ethic. He spent more than 40 loving years with his longtime companion, Genevieve Seitz, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his brother, Rollie (Jo) Burmeister; special niece, Jeanette Burmeister; adopted niece, Linda Wilhelm; Genevieve’s children, Judy Stevenson and Jim (Naomi) Seitz; their families Teresa Stevenson, Tim Bates, John Bates, Brandi Driggers and Avery Matthews; dear family friends, Eileen Johnson and Freddie Prott; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends; and his four legged companion, Dee Dee.
He was further preceded in death by Genevieve’s granddaughter, Tammy Jackley; and siblings, Don Burmeister, Tyrone Burmeister, Evelyn Krista, and Grace Schultz.
Visitation is Friday, May 31, from noon until time of funeral services at 3 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, in Hudson Cemetery in Lyons. Memorials to a charity of your choice are suggested.
