Michael H. Engel, 88, Burlington, died Feb. 1, 2013, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington. He was born Dec. 30, 1924, to the late Marthin and Helen (Choljenski) Engel in Chicago. His early life was spent in Chicago.
On June 27, 1953, he married Barbara Schatz in Chicago. Following marriage he drove truck in the Chicago area. They moved to Burlington in 1953, where he was part owner of the Palm Gardens. After selling Palm Gardens he was employed at Lavelle Industries up to his retirement. He was a coin collector, a dog lover and enjoyed playing cards. He was an honorary Racine County Deputy and a Justice of the Peace in Burlington.
Survivors include his wife; children, Donna Owens, Niceville, Fla., Christine (Mike) Yack, Florence Ky., Michael (Lillian) Engel, Burlington, Martin (Jan) Engel, New Richmond, Michelle (Bill) Larson, Burlington, Paul (Patsy) Engel, Watertown; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was further preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Visitation is Monday, Feb. 4, from 5 p.m., until time of memorial service at 7 p.m., at Schuette Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, The Rev. Robert Bolling officiated. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aurora Burlington Hospital for all their care and comfort they gave to Michael and his family.
