Patricia K. ‘Kay’ Serkowski, 68, Burlington, died Oct. 6, 2013, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.
She was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Baxter Springs, Kan., to the late Tony and Margaret (Adams) Beets. Her family lived in Cuba City where she attended school.
On Aug. 1, 1975, she married Melvin Serkowski and they made their home in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1999.
She was a cook and a waitress at Mel’s Diner in Waterford, which is the restaurant she and her husband owned. She had also worked as a laborer for an electronics manufacturer.
She was an animal lover and also enjoyed searching for Indian artifacts.
Survivors include her stepchildren, Melvin Jr. (Janine), Ronald and Barbara; step-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Heide, Nicole, Dayton and Trinidy; dear friend, Kenneth D. Maki; siblings, Ronnie Beets, Vi Fager; and Aunt Jan Lacke who was like a sister to her.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Burlington Hospital and Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Care.
Visitation is Saturday, Oct. 19, from 2 p.m. until time of services at 4 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington.
