RUTH E. PORITZ-CELIA

Ruth E. Poritz-Celia, 88, Burlington, died April 15, 2013, at Arbor View Communities. She was born April 16, 1924, in New Munster to the late Aloysius and Mary (Hunsbusher) Elverman. She spent her early life in New Munster and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Burlington.

On Feb. 27, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington, she married Russell F. Poritz. Following marriage they resided in Burlington. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1983.

In August of 1988, she then married Ralph Celia. He also preceded her in death.

She had many roles; homemaker and mother as well as bookkeeper for the family business, Poritz Plumbing, and the family farm. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lyons, serving as the Religion Education Director, along with being a Religion teacher at St. Mary’s Church in Pell Lake.                   In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, flowering, dancing and watching her children and grandchildren in various sporting and club activities. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen (Charles) Craig, Burlington, Fred (Darlene) Poritz, Elkhorn, Russell M. (Sandra) Poritz, Horicon, Sandra (Kerry) Jenkins, Elkhorn, Scott (Katie) Poritz, Burlington; grandchildren, Rebecca Stardy, Jessica Stardy-Marifke, Tiffany, Tabitha, Tara, Taylor, Allison, Cassandra, Rachel Poritz and Jacob, Heather and Breanna Jenkins, five great-grandchildren; siblings, Sr. Charitas Elverman SDS and Charles Elverman; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by brothers, Richard Elverman and Fr. Donald Elverman.

Visitation is Friday, April 19, from 10 a.m., until time of services at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. The Rev. John Baumgartner will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, is serving the family.

Memorials to Arbor View Activities Fund or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons have been suggested.
