Walter H. “Hal” Gasser, 80, Waterford, died peacefully on Aug. 28, 2013. He was born in Colorado, to the late Walter and Lolita (Moffett) Gasser. He was in his teens when his family moved to Wisconsin.
He attended Rochester Ag School for two years and graduated from East Troy High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years, stationed at Paine Air Force Base in the state of Washington. After his service to our country he worked on a fishing boat in Alaska.
On Dec. 1, 1962, he married Donna Huelskamp at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Waterford. He operated the theatre in Waterford and the Clark Station and later in life he drove a Brownberry delivery truck.
He was an outstanding 56-year member of the American Legion Post 20 of Waterford. In his spare time he enjoyed watching local sports: Waterford Riverman Baseball, high school baseball and local sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years; sisters/brothers-in-law, Dolores (Jay) Scheele, Joe Huelskamp, Richard (Mary Lou) Huelskamp, Glen (Barb) Huelskamp, Judi (Rick) Haydu, Joan (Doug) Anderson, Ruth (Pat) Kretschmer; nephew, Charles Gasser; two nieces; other relatives and friends.
He was further preceded in death by his brother, Charles.
Services are Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., at Mealy Funeral Home, Inc., 225 W. Main St., Waterford, with the Rev. Mark Jaramillo officiating. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at funeral home. Burial is in Oak Ridge Cemetery, East Troy, following services.
In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy Hal’s family suggests memorials to The American Heart Association, American Legion Post 20 of Waterford or The American Cancer Society.
