Warren E. Umnus Sr., 85, Burlington, died March 17, 2013, his home. He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Burlington, to the late Ernest and Lucy (Sagert) Umnus. He was a lifetime resident of Burlington and received his education in the Burlington School District.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Pacific Theatre.
On Aug. 2, 1947, he married Margaret Nemath. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. Margaret preceded Warren in death on Nov. 26, 2000.
He worked for Hufschmidt Engineers and JW Peters Construction. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, and the Burlington Blizzard Bugs Snowmobile Club. He was an avid snowmobiler, hunter, bird watcher and bowler. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren up north.
Survivors include his children, Sue (Tom) Wienke, David (Kathy) Umnus Sr., Jerry (Dawn) Umnus; grandchildren, David Jr. (Amy), Derek (Sara), Kayla, Zachary, Kathleen, Cole, Jackson; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brett and Mason; siblings, William (Cindy) Umnus, Jack Umnus, Florence ‘Snooks’ (Tom) Sell, Mary Jane Radtke, Lucy ‘Cookie’ (David) Warner and Geraldine Akre; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was further preceded in death by his son, Warren ‘Butch’ Umnus Jr.; brother, Bob Umnus; sister, Pauline Eckstein; and sister-in-law, Marcia Umnus.
Visitation is Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Kirk Lahmann will officiate. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
Memorials to the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Union Grove, are suggested .
