Frederick W. Kellner, 96, died Aug. 9, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Burlington. He was born May 20, 1918, to the late Charles and May (Measure) Kellner in Racine, where he lived for most of his life except for stints in Townsend and Monteverde, Fla.
He married the late Margaret Drought on Sept. 6, 1939, and during their 74-year marriage together they raised four children.
He was employed by the Racine Fire Department for 32 years, retiring in May of 1973. He served as a crossing guard for 9 years in Union Grove. He and Marge lived in Townsend for 10 years where Kellner was a town supervisor. He taught fire-fighting school in Green Bay and was president of the AARP. The couple also lived in Florida for 14 years and were preschool volunteers. He was a church elder and campground custodian.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, ice-skating, camping and traveling with Marge. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Union Grove. He always had candy for the children and was known as the Candy Man.
Survivors include his son, Dave (Marcia) Kellner; brother, William ‘Bucky’ (Sandy) Kellner; son-in-law, Wally Herman; his daughter-in-law, Cornelia; grandchildren, Mike Herman, Lori Allyn, Greg (Thuy) Herman, Chris (Kim) Herman, Kim Martin, Suzy (Mark) Pleasant, and Jeff Martin; Fred (Cheryl) Kellner, Tera (Marty) Wegner, Todd Kellner, and Eric (Jennifer) Kellner, and John and Matt (Tina) Kellner; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Alex, Elise, C.J., and Nathan Herman; Amy and Emily Allyn, Trisha (Jon) Stupey; Steve and Derek Loew; Max and Paris Pleasant; Jackie, Josie, and Julia Kellner; Marlie, Lilly, Chloe, Alana, and Hudson Wegner; and Riley and Lexie Kellner; great-great-grandchildren, Zach and Lana Stupey; Jarod Loew, and Halia Friesema.
He was further preceded in death by his daughters, Annette Herman and Margaret (Peggy) Kellner; his son, Charles F. Kellner; great-grandson, Michael Leow; siblings, Tilly (Art) Philips and Jerry Kellner; and his siblings-in-law, Dorothy Ernst and Martha Rademacher.
Visitation for family and friends is Friday, Aug. 15, from 12:30-2 p.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Union Grove. The memorial service officiated by the Rev. Mark Wilkins is at 2 p.m. Miller-Reesman, Kasuboski, Haas, and Dahl Funeral Home, Union Grove, is serving the family.
