James ‘Jim’ Harker Moxon, 72, Union Grove, died Aug. 5, 2014. He was the son of Alvin and Nannette (Harker) Moxon and lived his early life in Brookings, S.D., and Wooster, Ohio.
He was a 1966 graduate of South Dakota State University with a BS degree in mechanized agriculture. From 1966 to 1969 he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at the White House working with the Signal Corps. Following discharge, he worked for Case IH in company-owned retail stores in Ohio and Illinois, but primarily at the Sturtevant store until its closing in 1991.
In 1996 Jim graduated from Gateway Technical College and worked as an RN in emergency departments at St. Luke’s and All Saints in Racine until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of the Union Grove Yorkville Fire and Rescue Department from 1979 to 1998 and was a Gateway EMS instructor from 1984 to 2013, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a conference committee member of the Wisconsin EMS Association for 24 years.
In 1965 he married Birgit Palm and they had two children, Ingrid (Mark) Pfeiffer, Port Washington, and Andrew (Paula) Moxon, Racine. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Alex Moxon, Rachel Moxon, Eric Pfeiffer and Julia Pfeiffer.
He was an active member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Burlington, serving on the vestry and on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. His hobby was woodworking, and he made furniture for family, friends and church auctions. He was a member of Vasa Order of America, a Swedish-American organization; the Linde-Kipakat Folk Dancers; and together with his wife, taught Swedish folk dancing for 10 years to the children of the Vasa Skansen Club. He also was a member of Sons of Norway and the Moxon Society, for which he traveled to England almost yearly, beginning in 1998.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent either to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 216 Chandler Blvd., Burlington, WI 53105; Union Grove Yorkville Fire & Rescue Department, 700 Main St., Union Grove, WI 53182; or Gateway Technical College Hero Center, 380 McCanna Pkwy., Burlington, WI 53105.
Services are Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Burlington. Visitation is Friday, Aug. 15 from 4-7 p.m., at Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home, 908 11th Ave., Union Grove, and again on Saturday, Aug.16, at church from 10-11 a.m. Burial is Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m., at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
