NELLIE J. WELKER

Easter Lily      Nellie J. Welker, 62, Wolf Lake, died Jan. 2, 2015, with her loving family at her side at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee.

The former Nellie Peterson was born July 14, 1952, in Kenosha, to the late Arnold and Nancy (Bobzin) Peterson.

She graduated from Union Grove High School in 1970. She continued her education by receiving her bachelor’s degree from UW–Platteville as well as master’s degrees from Illinois State University and Marian College.

On July 20, 1974, she married Douglas Welker. She was an elementary teacher and administrator for Milwaukee Public Schools until her retirement in 2007.

She was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, especially the Woman’s Ministry. Her true pride and joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Doug; daughter, Amanda (David) DeBruin, New Holstein; sons, Joshua (Rachael) Welker, Peoria, Ill., and Benjamin Welker, Milwaukee; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Samuel, Allison, Lillian, Isaac and Evelyn; sisters, Mary (Craig) Mentink, Jane Richards and Amy Pelosi; brothers-in-law, Howard Dahl, Dave Sallee, and David (Carol) Welker.

She was further preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew DeBruin; sister, Ruth Dahl; brother, John (Nancy Sallee) Peterson.

Funeral services were Jan. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. The Rev. David Laabs officiated. Burial was in the Townsite Cemetery, New Holstein. Mieselwitz Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, served the family.
