Mark Hladik, 59, of Twin Lakes, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Aurora Burlington Medical Center. He was born April 22, 1959 in Chicago to Ralph and Irma Hladik. He lived in Chicago and Oak Forest, Ill., and during his teen years, was a summer resident of Fontana. His family moved from their then permanent home in Genoa City in 1994 to the East Troy area.
Mark went to high school in Oak Forest for his freshman year and transferred to Big Foot High School in Fontana-Walworth where he graduated in 1977. He was on the swim team in Illinois, and played varsity tennis at Big Foot. After completing a work-study program at Big Foot, he became a meat cutter in several grocery stores. He also worked as a driver for Ranger Trucking, and ultimately became proficient in fence building, having his own company, Southern Lakes Fence Builders, at the time of his death.
Mark loved playing golf and was particularly proud of a “hole in one” at a course in Twin Lakes. He was an avid Harley rider as well. Mark still played tennis when he could. He also enjoyed playing Monopoly, watch The Walking Dead, and old Andy Griffith TV shows. He was a culinary expert, and loved to cook as well as eat. He was a Bears fan only when they deserved it.
He is survived by his loving mother Irma of Waterford, sister Becky of Milwaukee, brother John of Elkhorn, and nephew Kalan of Elkhorn. He is also survived by his very special friend, Pam of Twin Lakes and many loyal friends who supported him all through his long, difficult journey, by driving him, bringing food, shopping, getting mail, maintaining his home, and most of all visiting and just being there, always.
His family is grateful beyond words to Pam, Dan and Penny, Gregg, Kristi, Bill, Rob, Tony, Tom, John and Gretchen, and Jason. They were more than just friends to Mark. They were family. Love to cousins Jan, Don, Tim, Sarah, Laura, Nancy, George, Julie, and Christopher.
Mark fought a brave, unbelievable battle with strength and hope for a very long time. He left us peacefully without ever quitting or giving up. Our dear Lord said, “Enough suffering, come home to be with Dad, Grandma and Grandpa Stajkowski, and Grandma and Grandpa Hladik.”
A Holy Mass in celebration of life and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Thomas Aquinas, 305 S. 1st St. in Waterford.
