Ellen J. Ness, 90, of Waterford, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, with loving family at her side.
Ellen was born in Grand Rapids, N.D., on March 7, 1931, to Andrew and Mabel (nee Mart) Skovgaard. She attended school in Grand Rapids and on Sept. 17, 1947, she married Chester C. Ness. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1999. The couple lived in Grand Rapids for a while where they first ran a café’ and then became farmers. They moved to Wisconsin in 1956 where Ellen worked for Woolworth Company as a bookkeeper for some time. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, crochet, playing cards, and spending time with her loving family.
Ellen is survived by seven children, Denice (Dennis) Gahagan, Donna (Lee) LaBonte, Donald (Gail) Ness, David Ness, Danny Ness, Cheryl (Daryle) Thompson and Chester (Sandy) Ness Jr.; grandchildren, Shawn (Sherry) Gahagan, Deanna LaBonte (Dan), Nicole (Vince) Vitrano, James (Jen) Ness, Heather Ness, Dylan (Camie) Ness, Hannah Ness, Becky Hallin, Cindy (Chris) Carbine, Art Ness (Paul), Katie (Ryan) Holquist; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester Ness, sisters and brothers, grandson Shane and son-in-law Larry.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at Norway Lutheran Church, 6321 Heg Park Road, Wind Lake from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch in the church hall. Private burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
