ELNA A. MAHONEY

      Elna A. Mahoney, 89, of Burlington passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.

Elna was born Dec. 16, 1931, to Zenas and Edith (nee Wheeler) Beadles in Jump River. Her early life was spent in Jump River, where she attended Sheldon Grade School and attended Hannibal High School. On June 17, 1989, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Mahoney in Cross Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they resided in Lyons. Jack passed away July 20, 1993. Elna has lived in the Burlington area since 1977. She was employed at the Southern Wisconsin Center.

Elna was very active in the community, serving on various committees. She was the Secretary of Christian Mothers, Parish Council Member of St. Joseph in Lyons, Vice President of Catholic Knights, Vice Regent of The Daughters of Isabella, and a member of the Burlington Senior Center. She was a volunteer for the hospital gift shop, for Telecare, and the Harmony Club. In August of 2014, she received the AARP Volunteer Award for all her kindness and assistance helping others. She loved to volunteer. Elna has traveled all over the world. She enjoyed playing cards, going on bus trips, and visiting casinos. She was also a licensed private pilot.

Elna is survived by her children, Arlene (Michael) Langel of Salem, Eileen (William) Olson of Burlington, Beverly Fox of Salem and Allen (Jessica) Wriedt of Elkhorn; grandchildren, Donna Huck, Dawn (Russ) Larson, Sandy Langel, Daniel Langel, Michael (Karin) Olson, Sarah (Michael) Guard, Shelly (David) Wolverton, Brian (Sarajane) Olsen, Shaun Lund, Elizabeth Fox, Jesse (Tyler Yost) Wriedt, Holly (Steve) Adamson, Kyle Wriedt, Veronica Wriedt and Aiden Wriedt; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Madison, Sydney, Silas, Emma, Genevieve, Bentley, Mackenzie, Kendall, Tristin and Altin; sisters Eileen Roback and Norma Jean Harshberger; sisters-in-law Harriet Wriedt and Bev Beadles; many, many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Elna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; daughter Carolyn (Don) Huck; son George Wriedt; son-in-law Robert Fox; brothers, Lee (Martha) Beadles, Marvin (Naomi) Beadles, Don Beadles, Duane Beadles and Ray (Betty) Beadles; infant brothers Harmon and Zenas; and brothers-in-law Rusty Roback and Jay Harshberger.

The family has suggested Memorials in honor of Elna be made to The Burlington Senior Center or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lyons.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 14, 2021, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow Mass at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lyons.
