Elva Pearl Walrath, 93, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021.
Elva was born in Yorkville on Nov. 26, 1927, to Archie and Edith Cooper. She attended Yorkville Grade School and Union Grove High School where she met her future husband, Eugene Walrath. After high school, she attended Business College in Milwaukee and was employed at Belle City Malleable and Racine Steel Castings in the office Billing Department. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Eugene at the Yorkville Methodist church. They had three children; Gregory, Hugh and Jan. Elva and her husband owned Esther’s Gift shop in Burlington, from 1952 until 1954 and C&D Duck Farms in Yorkville until 1981.
As a dedicated child of God, the church was always important throughout Elva’s life, staying active in numerous committee and volunteer positions. In her retirement she was an activities director at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Ocala, Fla., playing the organ and organizing senior activities for the residents until her mid 80’s. Elva lived in Hartland since 2019.
Elva was preceded in death by Eugene her loving husband of 71 years, her daughter Jan, her parents Archie and Edith Cooper, sister Carol Schoenherr, infant brothers Wilbur and Frank, parents-in-law Earl and Annette Walrath, brother-in-law Noel Walrath, and sister-in-law Mona (Lloyd) Griffiths.
Elva is survived by her loving children, Gregory (Marjorie) of Madison, Hugh (Kathleen) of Hartland, grandson Christian (Cheyenne) of Winona, Minn., grandson Matthew (Affianced wife Heidi Tschanz) of Wauwatosa, sister-in-law Jeanne (Noel) Walrath of Kenosha, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Elva’s life was a life well lived with her infectious smile and twinkle in her eyes, her devotion to her husband and family, her sense of adventure, her musical talent and above all, her love of God in Christ Jesus our Savior.
A private burial will take place at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery followed by a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hartland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Our Saviors Lutheran Church to enhance the worship and music programs.
