Rev. Charles L. Stang, S.J., 84, was called to eternal life on Oct. 13, 2021.
Rev. Stang was Jesuit for 67 years and a priest for 54 years. Born in Burlington, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1954 and was ordained a priest in 1967. He was very proud of his roots in Burlington and loved the ministry of secondary education. He taught physics at Marquette University High School from 1961 to 1964 and from 1968 to 2011 with only a one-year break. He moderated student government, co-produced theatrical plays, and served as stage manager. He enjoyed working behind-the-scenes and making everything go well. He became a teacher emeritus in 2011 but continued to help out in the school until 2017 when failing health led to his moving to the St. Camillus Jesuit Community.
Rev. Stang was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Florence (nee Bieneman) Stang. He is survived by three brothers, John (Barbara) of Columbus, Ind., Daniel of Nome, Alaska, and Thomas (the late Susan) of Greenfield and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. at Marquette University High School. His cremains will be buried at Calvary Cemetery.
