Richard S. Bergman, 88, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 in River Falls.
Richard was born in Chicago, on May 17, 1933, to Stanley and Rose (nee Erkelens) Bergman. His early life was spent in Chicago. After high school, he served in the Air Force in security and intelligence for three years in Wiesbaden, Germany before serving for one year in the United States. He later received his degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh in Psychology and History. On July 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to his first wife, Mary Bernitt. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2007. On April 28, 2012, he was united in marriage to his second wife, Marilyn (nee Froelich) Rottel. He lived in Port Washington, West Bend, Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Hudson, and Marion, Ind., before moving to Burlington 30 years ago.
Richard worked in human resources with Foster Forbes and was a member of St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed restoring furniture and caning chairs, hunting, gardening, and history. He also loved his dogs and was an avid runner for many years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Eric (Mary) Bergman of River Falls and Beth (John) Bergman-Falk of Spring Prairie; grandchildren, Troy (Jessica) Bergman, Mark (Claire) Bergman, Jake Bergman, Logan (April) Falk, Molly (Bryan) Falk-Steinmetz and Luke Falk; great-grandchildren, Claire, Axel and Odin Bergman, Lily Falk and one more great-grandchild on the way; and sisters, Colleen Allen and Diane Beeckler. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at noon on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. Full military honors will follow outside of church.
