Ruth J. Schuttenhelm, 90, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Geneva Lakes Manor.
Ruth was born in Burlington on April 26, 1931, to Otto and Martha (nee Hansen) Yahnke. On Aug. 26, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage to Roy Schuttenhelm. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was a life-long resident of Burlington.
Ruth worked as a punch press operator for A/C Spark Plugs, secretary for Sherrer-Strohm Construction and data processor for Burlington Hospital. She was a notary until 2012, member of Community State Bank Harvest Club and member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington her entire life. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially hostas, knitting and sewing. She loved her family and taking care of them, which was her greatest passion.
Ruth is survived by her children, Cindy Jean (Mark Aeschlimann) Royce and James W. (Karin) Schuttenhelm Sr.; grandchildren, James (Crystal) Schuttenhelm Jr., Matt (Amanda) Schuttenhelm, Ryan Royce and Christopher (Alaina) Royce; and great-grandson, Jason Schuttenhelm. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Wilma (Harley) Howe and Lolita (Warren) Christensen, and six nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Geneva Lakes Manor, Aurora at Home Hospice and Burlington Hospital for their care and compassion during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project or Wounded Veterans Association.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021 at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
