Terry M. Volbrecht, 72, of Lyons, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021.
Terry was born in Elkhorn on May 2, 1949, to Wendolyn and June (nee Young) Volbrecht. On July 20, 1968, at Grace Bible Church in Burlington, he was united in marriage to Darlene Menge. This past summer, they happily celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. From 1969 until 1971, he served in the Vietnam War.
Terry worked as a stone and brick mason for Scherrer and Strohm Construction. He was an expert mason, restoring many historical buildings in the area, including the St. Mary steeple and Landmark building in Lake Geneva. He was very adventurous, enjoying ice and salt-water fishing, biking, sailing, canoeing and camping with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Terry is survived by his wife, Darlene Volbrecht; daughter, Destine (Wayne) Rubach; daughter-in-law, Chrissy (Tom Friberg) Volbrecht-Friberg; grandchildren, Bodie (Annastacia) and Gage (Taylor) Rubach and Jason “Jase” Volbrecht; great-grandchild, Mars Rubach; and siblings, Peggy Konrad, Larry Volbrecht, Kenny Volbrecht, Danny Volbrecht, Randy Volbrecht, Jerry Volbrecht, Cindy Cucco and Kristy Mulvey. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Nancy Volbrecht, Wendy Volbrecht and Marcy Volbrecht; and son, Jason Shawn Michael Volbrecht.
The family would like to thank Annastacia Rubach and Shelly, Becky, Janay, Kris and Briana from Aurora at Home Hospice for their care and compassion during this time.
