Betty Jean Potokar, 102, of Union Grove and formally Waterford, passed away Dec. 27, 2021, at Aurora Medical Center Burlington.
Betty was born on Oct. 30, 1919, in Northport to Clifford James and Estella (nee Tyler) Dean. She graduated from the New London High School class of ‘37. She moved to Waterford in 1939.
Betty married the love of her life, the late Joseph John Potokar, on June 8, 1946. They raised a beautiful family together until his passing in February 1972. She was the Village Treasurer of Waterford until she retired in 1986. She then went on to work for Foat Builders from 1987 until 2014. She was a hard-working woman who continued volunteering at CUMC after her final retirement.
Betty is survived by her daughter Nancy (Tom) Reich; her grandchildren Ryan (Kristina) Reich, Nathan (Brenda) Reich and Heather (Kevin) Wilber; and great-grandchildren Hunter, Bailey, Tommy, Henrik Reich, and Andrew and Sophia Willett. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, and her community.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her son Joseph Dean, and her brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Jan. 7, 2022, at Integrity Celebrations Center, 2789 Browns Lake Dr., Burlington. An open house gathering will be held from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service. Betty will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Waterford following the service.
