Dora I. West, 85, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022 at Aurora Medical Center in Burlington.
Dora was born in Footville on Sept. 25, 1937, to Lon and Alma (nee McMannus) Stine. Her early life was spent in Burlington, where she graduated from Burlington High School. On June 30, 1956 at the Burlington Masonic Temple, she was united in marriage to Robert M. West. Following marriage, they lived in Burlington until Robert retired in 1990. At that time, they moved to Hayward. Robert preceded her in death on June 12, 2001. In 2014, Dora moved back to the Burlington area.
Dora worked for Burlington Telephone as a switchboard operator and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Church in Burlington and was an original founding member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Dora enjoyed the wildlife in Hayward, especially the bears and deer. She loved watching NASCAR and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dora is survived by her children, JoAnn (Mike) Wiemer and Robert (Tahtia); grandchildren, Tim, Jessica, and BobbiJo; great-grandchild, Serenity; and siblings, Willis Stine of Oshkosh, Joyce Frey of Lyons, and Victor (Carol) Stine of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Wayland Stine I, and brother-in-law, George Frey. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Dora will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 from 10 a.m. until noon at Schuette Daniels Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will place in Hayward at a future date.
