EUNICE K. GETKA

      Eunice K. Getka, 98, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, at Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn.

Eunice was the youngest of three daughters of Matthew and Anneta (nee Streu) Kleppel in Berwyn, Illinois. She spent her early years in Forest Park and Oak Park, Illinois. In 1941, she graduated from Proviso Township High School, Maywood, Illinois, and then graduated from DePaul University Secretarial School. Staying in Chicago, she was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, serving five years as a private secretary to the Vice President.

On April 23, 1949, Eunice was united in marriage to Elroy G. Getka and purchased a dairy farm in the Burlington area. Along with farming, she spent four years as secretary for the Security Mfg. Co. and eventually retired in 1986 from the Town of Burlington Police Department after serving 11 years as dispatcher and clerk.

In 1991, they moved to Big Yellow Lake in Webster, to follow their passion for fishing and the outdoors. After the passing of Elroy in 2005, Eunice returned to Burlington to be closer to friends and family. She is a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burlington.

Eunice is survived by her sons, Gerald (Bonnie) Getka of Montgomery, Illinois and David (Ingrid) Getka of Indio, California; granddaughter, Kristen and great-granddaughters Olivia and Gwen of Huntington Beach, California; niece Janice Grover of Berwyn, Illinois; nephews, Daniel Licht of Berwyn, Illinois and Robert Tesch of Nekoosa; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Eunice was preceded in death her husband Elroy; parents, Matthew and Annetta Kleppel; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Caroline Getka; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Elmer Licht, and Eileen and Milton Tesch; brother-in-law, Vern Getka; and nephew John V. Tesch.

Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday. Aug. 30, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 198 Westridge Ave. Burlington. Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Tuesday, August 30, from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Slades Corners.
