Marilyn A. Nitka, 91, of Waterford, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 at her home.
Marilyn was born in Burlington on March 21, 1931, to Oliver and Frances (nee Healy) Noll. Her early life was spent in Waterford, where she graduated from Waterford Grade School and High School. She attended Carroll College and graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Home Economics.
On May 29, 1954, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Burlington, Marilyn was united in marriage to Norbert Nitka. Along with relatives, she helped design and build a custom home alongside the Fox River on North Jefferson Street. She and Norbert raised two sons there. After her sons grew up, she taught Home Economics at Waterford High School in the 1970’s and 1980’s. After retiring from teaching, she used her skills as a seamstress on projects including designing and constructing banners for worship at St. John the Divine. She enjoyed genealogy and preserving the history of the Village of Waterford. Norbert preceded her in death on July 3, 2013. In her later years she battled gradually worsening dementia while she was lovingly cared for at home by her son Dan and her cat companion Molly.
Marilyn is survived by her children, David (Rebecca Wong) Nitka and Daniel Nitka, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and lifelong friend, Barb Bucholtz. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law Verna (Krerowicz) Nitka; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Ray Baumgart; niece, Jackie Reich; and beloved cousin The Very Rev. John E. (Jack) Gulick.
Services for Marilyn will be held Wednesday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Burlington, followed by committal and burial of ashes at Rochester Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to St. John the Divine, 216 E. Chandler Blvd. Burlington WI 53105.
