Graveside Services were held on Oct. 8, 2022, at St. Charles Cemetery for Michael McCarthy, 86, who passed away on June 12, 2022 in Springfield, Oregon.
Mike was born on May 30, 1936 to John E. and Virginia McCarthy. He grew up in Burlington along with his six siblings in a fun-loving, very typical outgoing Irish family. He attended St. Charles Grade School, was a graduate of Burlington High School, Class of 1954, and attended Northwestern University. He served in the US Army and spent two years in Germany.
Mike married Joan Murphy and they moved to the Oakland, California area where they raised their two sons. Later divorcing, Mike remained in California until he recently moved to Oregon to be with his son, Mike, and family due to declining health.
Mike is survived by his son, Michael (Myrna) of Springfield, Oregon and their daughters Taylor, Liah and Alyna; son, Patrick (Ingrid) of Lake Havasu, Arizona and their sons, Conor (Bree), and Cory (Meagan); and grandchildren Chloe, Keagan, Tanner and Wyatt. He is also survived by his brother, Bill McCarthy of Oshkosh; sisters, Mary Block of Burlington and Edna (Wenzel) Smetana of LaCrosse; sisters-in-law Theresa McCarthy and Kathy McCarthy; along with many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hans, Dick and Tom; brother-in-law Jerry Block; sisters-in-law Marise McCarthy and Mary McCarthy; nephew Steve Smetana, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life with an Irish fun-filled Top-of-the Morning gathering followed the Graveside Service.
