Richard James “Dick” Stich, 81, of Burlington, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, with his children at his side.
Richard was born on July 28, 1940, to John and Mary Stich. He was born and raised in the Franklin and was one of ten children. On Oct. 22, 1960, he married Jean Klechowitz and they had seven children. After a number of different jobs, including a family business venture “R.J. Stich and Sons” making cement drain tile, he realized his dream of becoming a self-employed farmer. Dick and his family raised pigs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. This operation was the turning point for Dick to begin raising vegetables and farming on his own in the Tichigan, Waterford and Rochester areas. Many in the community remember his roadside stand and Stich’s greenhouses.
His children will remember him for his unending work ethic and his often-mischievous sense of humor. Life with Richard was never dull and often unpredictable. He closed his eyes for the last time asking for a Whopper and an orange soda. To anyone who knew Richard, this was not a surprise!
Richard is survived by his children, Tricia, Greg, Kelly, Peter, Jonell, and Jonathon, and by other relatives and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful daughter Carol Ann.
Join the family for Memorial Visiting from 4 to 5:45 p.m. at Mealy Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. No formal services will take place.
