RUTH MAGDALENE BERRY

Ruth Magdalene Berry, 93, of Burlington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Ruth was born in Burlington on Sept. 4, 1928, to Edward and Florence (nee Reesman) Jackley. She grew up in Burlington and was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary’s High School.

Ruth married the love of her life Norris “Jack” Berry on May 12, 1951. Ruthie and Jack enjoyed dancing to the big band sounds, family camping, summer vacations on Lake Noquebay, their many motorcycle adventures and spending time at their “Berry’s Barn” property in Crivitz. Most of all they loved spending time with their girls and their families.

Ruth’s unconditional love always shone through! Her selflessness and compassion made her the beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that she was. She enjoyed going to play Bingo with her sisters and playing cards with the same group of high school classmates and friends for many years. She enjoyed gardening and especially caring for her many varieties of roses. She was a member of the Jaycees, co-chaired the Charity Ball, a Girl Scout leader, and a hospital auxiliary gift shop volunteer. Ruth enjoyed her employment at Swenson and Herrman jewelry stores and in the gift department at Tobin Drug where she applied her creativity and artistic flair.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Marilee (Scott) Hoffman of Burlington, Kathleen (Richard) Cable of Eau Claire, Jaclyn (Kriss) Spradley of Fort Collins, Colorado and Leslie (Scott) Fry of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Krystyna (Michael) Hase, Jason (Laura) Hoffman, Joseph (Debra) Cable, Elizabeth (Jared) Benz, Kyle (Gretchen) Hoffman, Sara (Matthew) Vaught, Thomas (Tiara) Fry, Kasha (Jake) Rasmussen and Jackson Fry; twenty four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Olivia Hoffman; Michael, Amy, Heidi, Tommy, and Elsa Hase; Joey, Ameilya, Lyndee, and Mollee Cable; Leisl, Grace, Emma, Ty, and Trey Benz; Julia and Charlotte Hoffman; Crew, Mason, Wesley, and Reagan Vaught; and Jacob “Buck” Rasmussen; and sisters, Betty (Jim) Uhen, and Alice Zaspel. Jack preceded Ruth in death on Oct. 17, 2021. She is further preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Dorothy (Raymond) Oldenburg, Loretta (Leo) Zinnen, Mary (Chuck) Lois, Mickey (Smitty) Kerkhoff, Eddie Jackley and brother-in-law Ted Zaspel along with many dear in-laws and friends.

Ruth’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care given by Aurora Hospice Care, the Aurora nursing staff, Dr. Jolenta Twardy, Dr. Ram Saladi and the caring CNA’s and aides at Oak Park Place.

Memorials to St. Mary’s Church to be earmarked for seasonal decorations and plantings would be appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life is being planned for later this summer. Daniels Family Funeral Home will be assisting the family. Well-wishers may visit www.danielsfamilyfuneral.com.
