Wayne J. Klein, 79, of Burlington, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022 at Aurora Medical Center in Burlington.
Wayne was born in Burlington on Jan. 1, 1943, to Walter and Bernice (nee Larson) Klein. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington and graduated from St. Mary High School, Class of 1961. He served in the US Army in Germany from 1964 until 1966 and attended nuclear weapons school. On Oct. 8, 1983, he was united in marriage to Karen French. They resided in Burlington following marriage. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2013.
Wayne worked at Burlington Brass Works for 12 years and JW Peters for 23 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading, planting flowers, yard work and camping. Every spring he enjoyed hunting for the elusive morel mushroom. Wayne was a “fungi” who loved spending time with his family.
Wayne is survived by his children, Joseph (Rachel) Klein, Chuck (Sandy) Klein, Julie (Robert) Baumeister, Jodi (Dick) Palmer and Jeff (Holly) French; grandchildren, Robert (Traci Haney) Baumeister Jr., Bailey Baumeister, Madeline “Maddie” Baumeister, Erin French and Collin Klein; brother, Phillip (Lynn) Klein; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Karen, sister Sue (Butch) Hammett and sister-in-law Sue Klein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family to be divided up between Wayne’s favorite military charities.
Services for Wayne will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 4 until 7 p.m. Inurnment will take place Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
