Dawn M. Smyre, 57, of Wheatland, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at Aurora Medical Center in Burlington.
Dawn was born in Fond du Lac on April 8, 1966, to Rodney and Julie (nee Lallier) Brajdic. Her early life was spent in Fond du Lac, and she graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School and Marquette University with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree. On Nov. 16, 1990, she was united in marriage to Travis Smyre, and together they explored the world round. Always chasing chance and opportunity, over the course of their thirty-eight years together, they lived in Milwaukee, New Jersey, California, Singapore, and Sydney before returning to the United States in 2014, working back east from California and then Minnesota, before settling in Wheatland in 2018. They traveled extensively in Europe and Asia and made a family of friends found in all ports of call.
Dawn worked as a paralegal and office manager for Allstate before transitioning to managing their home when living in Singapore. She was preternaturally perceptive and had a keen and ever-curious mind. She read voraciously, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed photography, sewing, and woodworking.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Travis; siblings, Gregg (Deb), Gary, and Jim (Debbie); siblings-in-law, Theron (Jennifer) and Terence (Sabrina); and nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Vondracek, Aiden Smyre, and Rodney and Sarah Wigman. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank the ER and ICU staff of Aurora Medical Center for their care and compassion during this time.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at a later date.
