Ethel M. Hollencamp, 92, of Waterford, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at her residence.
Ethel was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Jamaica, New York, to Alvin Frank and Ella Marie (nee Kelly) Pofahl. She spent her early life in New York, in the borough of Queens, moving to Wisconsin in 1946. She graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha.
On May 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to James Bernard Hollencamp at St. George Church in Kenosha. James preceded her in death on November 1, 1999.
Following marriage James and Ethel spent 40 years on the Hollencamp homestead. Ethel worked as an administrative secretary for Randall Consolidated School before moving to Tryon, North Carolina in 1989. She has been a resident of Waterford since 1998. Ethel organized the union support staff at Randall Consolidated School and was its first president. She also volunteered at the local hospital in North Carolina.
Ethel was a member of the Waterford Senior Citizens Group, Red Hatters, and Bunco Group. Her passion was sending greeting cards to her family and friends to brighten their day. She loved and enjoyed watching all the birds and her wish was to fly away – Wish Granted!! God raised her up on eagle’s wings.
Ethel is survived by children, Ellen (Larry) Gyger of Lyons, Terry Burki of Lake Mills, Keith Hollencamp of Waterford, and Cheryl (Wayne) Riehle of Wautoma; grandchildren, Jeremy Riehle, Jason (Amy) Riehle, Tyler (Lacee) Burki, and Amanda (Bill) Ryan; great grandsons Wyatt, Devon, Samuel, Henry, and Jack; great granddaughter Logan, and brother Alvin Pofahl of Flat Rock, North Carolina. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim and sisters, Eleanor Ward and Margaret Lucas.
The family would like to thank Dr. Srivastava and his nurse Sue, the entire staff at the Aurora Waterford Health Center as well as Dr. Richmond.
