Jean H. Moyer, 97, a lifetime resident of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at Oak Park Place.
Jean was born on June 8, 1926, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Charles and Maybelle (nee Ewing) Nelson. She grew up in Honey Creek on the family dairy farm. She loved horses and rode until just a short time ago. She enjoyed being outdoors. Jean was educated at Honey Creek Grade School and was a graduate of Rochester AG School with the class of 1944.
On May 22, 1948, in Elkhorn, Jean was united in marriage to Raymond J. Moyer. She worked for Walworth County Abstract Company doing clerical work. She is a member of Rochester First Congregational Church, Honey Creek Civic Club and she sang in the church choir. She volunteered for many committees in both Honey Creek and Rochester. Raymond preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2014.
Jean is survived by her daughter Cary R. Moyer and sister-in-law Barbara Moyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Myrtle (Claude) Dalton, Ruth (Dick) Woods, Dorothy Nelson and Lila (Donald) Krueger; and brothers-in-law Melvin (Mavis) Moyer and Leonard Moyer
Funeral Services will take place at 4 p.m. at Rochester First Congregational Church on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the church on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 3 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m.
Memorials in Jean’s memory can be given to Rochester First Congregational church or to the Honey Creek Civic Club.
