John T. Sime, 87, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at his home.
John was born in Ferryville on May 2, 1936, to Herman and Grace (nee Helgerson) Sime Sr. His early life was spent on the family farm in the Copper Creek Valley. On Sept. 28, 1962, in Nashua, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Louise Sherry from Readstown. Following marriage, they resided in Gays Mills for a year before moving to Burlington in 1963. Louise preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2020.
John worked in the Crawford County area farming the family farm, working in the Gays Mills orchards and at the local cheese factory. While at the cheese factory, he found the career that he would hold until retirement at age 75. Driving a semi-truck was his long time career that he was very proud of, logging millions of miles all over the country. He loved collecting John Deere tractors and restoring them and enjoyed relating his many driving and fishing stories with friends. He loved traveling, camping, shooting, hunting and especially fishing, sharing his passion for them with family and friends at every opportunity. Later in life, his passion was gardening and sharing flowers and produce with family and friends. He also had a strong faith in God.
John is survived by his children, Ann (John) Kresken and Thomas (Janice) Sime; grandson Brandon Sime; and siblings Janice Roberts and Jim Sime. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Kermit Sime, Herman Sime Jr., Roger Sime, Clarabelle Horner, Geraldine Faeber, Arlene Deml and Mary Burton.
