LEONARD MARX

      Dr. Leonard “Lennie” Marx Th.D, Litt.D, D.D., passed away peacefully at his home on Feb. 6, 2023, in Burlington.

Lennie was born in Milwaukee to Anthony and Marie (nee Gawronski) Mroczkowski on Dec. 22, 1936.

Lennie grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Boys Tech High School in Milwaukee. After high school he went on to the Apostolic Bible Institute of St Paul, Minnesota where he received his diploma of Theology. He later attended American Divinity School where he obtained his Bachelors of Theology. He then attended the American Bible Collage where he obtained his Masters of Theology. Lennie went on to the International Bible Institute/Seminary where he received his Doctorate of Theology, Doctorate of Letters and Doctorate of Divinity. He also attended the Jewish Academy of Milwaukee where he furthered his studies in Hebrew and related subjects.

He later met the love of his life, Harriett (nee Kemble), in Rock Island, Illinois. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1968, at The Elim Tabernacle Church in Milwaukee. Following their marriage they moved to St Paul, Minnesota. In 1971, Lennie and Harriett relocated to Burlington.

Lennie was the shaliach (minister) of the Hebrew Apostolic Institute/Congregation for over 50 years, started in Burlington. He loved to study daily and read the Bible cover to cover many times. Lennie also worked for Ladish Company and in insurance sales for Prudential Insurance Company over 17 years. He was the owner/operator for Protective Services Plus and ended his career as a security guard for Potawatomi Bingo and Casino before retiring. He served honorably in the Air National Guard.

Lennie loved spending time walking his dogs at Richard Bong State Recreation Area and taking them for time at the Burlington Dog Park. He further enjoyed spreading the word of G-d, spending time traveling, playing Bingo, enjoying scenic car rides, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Lennie is survived by Harriett, his wife of 55 years; children, Kari Mullikin, Amie Marx-Conley, Terri Marx and Benjamin (Lori) Marx; grandchildren, Jamiea Marx, Megan (Matthew) Kusek, Logan (Michaela Zillmer) Mullikin, Aubrye Thompson-Marx, Isaiah Marx, Hannah (Tony Beres) Marx, Zion Conley, and Ryder Marx; and great-grandchildren, Lydia Marx, Madyson Marx, Rozilynn Marx, Lynnex Marx, Rowen Marx and soon to arrive Abilene Kusek. Lennie is further survived by his dog, Freeway, and many other family, friends, and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Richard Mroczkowski and Dorothy Sowinski.

A special thank you to his entire medical staff for the care they provided during the years of his life as well as during his final moments.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Richard Bong State Recreation Area or the Burlington Dog Park.

Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Following visitation, funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. led by long time family friend and congregation member, Elder Fred Hagedorn.
