Louise A. Spiegelhoff, 83, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at Pine Brook Pointe in Burlington.
Louise was born in Paris, Wisconsin on Aug. 30, 1939, to Edward and Louise (nee Juranek) Thom. Her early life was spent on the family farm in Paris. She graduated from St. Mary High School and attended Mt. Mary College before she met her future husband. On May 20, 1961 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Paris, she was united in marriage to James Spiegelhoff. Following marriage, they made Burlington their home and lived there until her passing.
Louise was a homemaker and member of St. Mary Parish and Lioness Club. She also worked at Burlington Flower Shop and Burlington Hallmark. She volunteered in the gift shop at Burlington Hospital and at Pine Brook Pointe with resident activities. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing any kind of craft, including sewing, quilting, knitting, painting, macrame and stained glass. She sewed costumes for St. Mary High School musicals, made baby blankets for church, and donated her quilts for fundraisers at school. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.
Louise is survived by her husband, James; children, Michael (Kathleen) Spiegelhoff, Kathleen (Jaime) Hegna, Timothy (Patricia) Spiegelhoff and Nancy (William) Still; grandchildren, Joseph (Katie), Nicholas (Maura), Taylor, Derek, Audrey, Grace, Aanders, Ava and Olen; great-granddaughter, Kyla; and siblings, Mary Messerlie, Barbara Keyes and Timothy Thom. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Peter Thom and Jean Leffelman.
The family would like to thank Aurora Hospice, along with the nurses and staff at Pine Brook Pointe and Lakeland Rehab Center, for their care and compassion during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 9 until 10:30 a.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Louise will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery following Mass.
