Mary F. Shaffer, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, in Mukwonago.
Born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Buffalo, New York, Mary was the daughter of Francis and Marie (Dougherty) McDonough. She spent most of her childhood in Salisbury, Maryland before returning to Buffalo. In Buffalo, she graduated from Mount St. Mary High School and earned her RN degree at Sisters of Charity School of Nursing.
Mary was united in marriage to M. Dennis Shaffer on Nov. 16, 1963. Following marriage, they lived in Clarence Center, New York, where they raised their family. Dennis preceded her in death on May 30, 1993. Mary moved to Wisconsin in 1997 to be close to her first grandchildren and remained there the rest of her life. She was a dedicated nurse, a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and a selfless friend to all who knew her. If ever there was an angel on earth, it was Mary.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Elmer and Neil McDonough; and sister, Virgina Baetzhold.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Shaffer, Jeanne (Thomas) Krien and Dennis (Dawn) Shaffer; and grandchildren, Jana (Sam) Krien-Follansbee, Krista Krien, Cara Krien, Evan Krien, Romyn Shaffer, Ryanne Shaffer, and Graysen Shaffer. She will be missed dearly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Waterford. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, Dec. 23, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Graveside service will be on Saturday, Dec. 30, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swormville, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sisters Hospital Foundation, Buffalo, NY, are suggested, or saying a rosary for someone in need.
